John (Jack) Rohu 1857-1931
John was born in Belmullet in Co Mayo in 1857 and later moved to Malahide, Co Dublin with his parents. He became a jeweller and watchmaker which he combined with a photography business. He practised for many years in Dublin just two doors down from his brother Alfred's business in 5 Castlemarket, as a street directory shows. Jack married Minnie Reynolds in 1906, but had no issue. He later emigrated to Lancashire, lived at three addresses over a number of years. Jack died, aged 73, at Poulton-le-Rylde in Lancashire.
Below is his stamp found at the back of a photo of his brother, William C Rohu and John's entry for the Great Exhibition in Dublin, where he fashioned a miniature kettle, cup, saucer and spoon from a farthing coin. |
